Acne-Fighting Foods
Acne is a skin condition that affects the area of the skin that is dense with sebaceous follicles. That is why the face, the back and the chest are prone to acne. When there is an overproduction of sebum, acne is likely to happen. This is because sebum serves as nourishment to the acne-causing bacterium that naturally resides on our skin. The bacteria thrive when there is more sebum causing inflammation and infection on the pores resulting to acne.
Unstable hormones, poor liver function, bacteria, and low-hydration are some factors that influence the occurrence of acne. The good news is there are certain foods can ease acne inflammation.
Foods with High Water Content
Foods that have high water content can help hydrate the skin. Of course, nothing beats drinking water but eating foods having high water content can keep the skin better moisturized. Excess sebum production is sometimes the result of dry skin. The body produces more sebum if it feels like the skin is not hydrated enough. Eating succulent fruits and vegetables is key to keeping the body hydrated next to drinking water.
Foods Rich in Vitamin E
Vitamin E is incorporated in numerous skin care and cosmetic products because it benefits the skin in many ways. Vitamin E improves blood circulation which helps in the overall health of the skin. Also, it is a potent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory substance that helps reduce the likelihood of acne occurrences as some studies suggest. Green leafy vegetables, beans, sweet potatoes, corn, almonds, sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, wheat germ oil and raw honey are all good Vitamin E sources.
Foods Rich in Vitamin F
Vitamin F comes in 2 forms, Omega3 and Omega 6. Omega 6 helps reduce the occurrence of acne through hydration thus preventing dry skin. Dry skin is also prone to acne. It is also a notable anti-ageing substance which restores the overall health of the skin. Meanwhile Omega 3 has anti inflammatory properties that ease acne in general. A very good source of Vitamin F is fish oil or fish.
Foods Rich in Zinc
Zinc can decrease the production of excess sebum on the skin by regulating the hormone testosterone. It also acts as an anti-oxidant which helps fight off free radicals at skin’s cellular level. It is therefore an effective acne solution. Oysters, sesame seeds, cocoa powder and peanuts are good sources of zinc.
Argan Oil
Argan oil is primarily a skin care product used topically but is also available as a culinary oil. It contains numerous ingredients which help ease acne altogether. Vitamin E, Phenols, Omega 6, Squalene are some of its ingredients These ingredients work together to decrease the occurrence of acne while keeping the skin healthy.
